Welcome to the Alpha Male Blog Hop. You have from October 19 through October 22nd to visit over 200 authors and tell us who and why certain Alpha Males are your hero. But first, I’ll tell you mine.

I’ve been in several blog hops recently where I told you my favorite alpha heroes. For The Alpha Male Blog Hop, I’m going to list some of them again, but tell you why my alpha heroes make the list.

To be not just an alpha but a hero, especially in a romance, must show tenderness. This is inherent in each of the heroes I’ll list, including the one found in my books.

WARRIOR’S RISE brings us Padraig O’Neill. Padraig
is a Fae warrior prince. When he meets the heroine, Deva, he is shocked to discover the Goddess’ new Cáidh Arm (Holy Weapon) is a half-breed, human/fae. Steve wants to wrap his mate in cotton, keep her safe, and out of the war. Unfortunately, Moira has just discovered her wings and wants freedom. Steve fights to keep her safe while learning sometimes letting your mate fly is the critical to protecting the woman you would willingly die for.

In ABSOLUTION, Druid Lucan Woods is on a one-way mission. Upon meeting Allana, he chooses to protect Allana as he allows her healing touch to save him. The ability to expose himself to the one women who could destroy him.

affection brotherly or something he’d have to put a halt to? The Cáidh Arm could have no romantic attachments. “I’ve told you everything. What more do you want?”

“I saw the way you looked at her. I’ll be watching you.” Pivoting, Steve stalked outside, the door slamming behind him.

“Looked at her?” Scowling, he faced the stairway and waited. Three minutes later, he watched as Deva returned. She didn’t walk, but glided, her steps soundless on the worn and cracked wooden floor. Even in her Fae boots, he would have expected to hear something, a creak, anything. All that greeted his ears was silence. “That was fast.”

“You said the space was unlimited. Besides,” Deva shrugged, “I don’t have a lot of things that mean much to me. Hey, I’ve just created the psychic moving van.” She grinned. “You know, this gives new meaning to having baggage.”

“Time to go, your friends are waiting by their vehicles.”

Once outside, she locked the bar. “I wonder if I’ll ever see it again.”

“If you do, it’ll be many years from now. After fighting a war, you, like all of us who have survived the horrors and losses inflicted upon us, will have different priorities.”

“Maybe,” she said, walking away. “But I’m still me right now.”

His eyes were drawn to her braid, swaying with each movement, its end calling attention to the gentle curve just below it.

Welcome to my new blog hop, Romancing the Blog.   

I’m thrilled to answer the key question posed by this hop.  What do I love about romance and romance books? There are several reasons I love romance and romance books.

Life can be rough–family in all its glory, paying the bills, trying and failing to train two cats that hate each other and are sisters.  Love and romance in real life makes it worth living.

In every day life, I lucked out.  My husband is still my hero. He is always in my corner, except when we disagree, and encouraging me. When I said I wanted to write novels about love, action, and urban fantasy, he said, “Go for it.” John, like most of my heroes, is a man of few words and shows me his love everyday through his support and actions.

Yes, my action adventure/urban fantasy romances give you, the reader, escape from every day life. The romance, I hope, shows the hero and heroine overcoming obstacles, talking out problems, sharing problems, and forgiving one another or themselves.

All my life I’ve been an avid reader. It’s been through books, I’ve been exposed to fresh ideas and experiences–if only in my mind. I read almost every genre, but romance holds a especially place in my heart. My characters, like most people, face hard choices. Yet through it all, the never lose the ability to hope and love.

So let me kick off by sharing some favorite things about romance heroes, which I think this is best done by selecting a few of my favorites:

• From Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series is Bones, a be still my heart hero. Yes, the man’s a vampire, but he would die to save the heroine. His actions speak louder than his words. What more could a woman ask for?
• From Nalini Singh’s Angel Hunter is Archangel Rafael, a rude, arrogant, and powerful archangel who willing bows before the heroine and to save her life, he chose to die with her instead of losing her. It was the ultimate sacrifice for an immortal. And with his good-bye kiss saved them both by turning her into an angel.
• From LJ DeLeon’s Warriors for Light series is Major Steve Taylor,  a strong alpha wereleopard who is a loyal, clan leader, solider for the Light, and willing to sacrifice his life for the woman he loves.

Hi, I’m Steve Taylor. As LJ said, I’m a wereleopard. While I’m called an alpha by most, those of us who are feline weres refer to me as a Felix. One day, I’ll take over for my father as “the” Felix for all were-felines. The love of my life, after I stopped fighting it, is Moira. I never thought she would consent to be my mate and when she finally did, I could have killed her, as you’ll see below. Oh, I’m also a prisoner of Senator Carlson who is a dark mage and bent on my death. Should I die, my mate will, too. Don’t you just love Moira’s timing?

Steve, talk to me.

Moira? Steve craned his neck and scanned the sky.

Of course, who’d expect?

After four hours, no one.

Why can I talk to you yet can’t with the guys?

Because I’m a Saraph. Silver doesn’t block my ability or power.

Too late, ainmhí, you’ve already claimed me. Once you’ve accepted a soul mate into your heart, not even death can break the bond. I claimed you the moment I brought you into Ahava. I now formally declare to you and before the Goddess, from my soul to your soul, your soul to my soul, you are my mate, my soul, my life.

A force not unlike a medicine ball slammed into his chest. Talons ripped into him, wrenching his soul from him, and thrusting it back in. A new sensation of oneness, of belonging filled him.

“Nooo,” Steve roared, realizing it was too late. An invisible, unbreakable cord joined them. He’d never be the lone leopard again. Only death could separate them now. Maybe not even that.

I’m often asked my I write romance and strong, alpha style heroes. Life without romance is a bore. It softens me allows me to dream.

As for my heroes, they are men who know the importance of romantic foreplay, and understanding it isn’t always about sex but tenderness, touching, caring, and protection. I love it when the hero has trouble telling the woman he loves how he feels—most me do. Yet he shows it through his actions. She’s ill, he takes care of her. She’s in danger and he will try to protect her, even if she’ll be the one to save them—at least in my books. I love it when heroes like, not just love, women. For these reasons and a multitude of others, I read and write romance and love heroes.
